Backlog Blog

I will summarize my blog silence in pictures: Took Veterans Day and headed to visit my friend, the world-class designer, in Memphis. while he was busy busting walls apart, I stole away for a homecooked meal at Mtown's oldest cafe, Arcade. The broccoli with cheese was a supreme disappointment. In a very short time span, the team demolished, rebuilt and reopened the restaurant with a facelift. The website is still under construction, but we will keep watching for updates. Sole Restaurant and Raw Bar, the new hottest spot in town.

A few days later, I packed my bags and headed south. SETAC was in Tampa, FL and luckily the sun was in attendance. We managed to soak up some rays in between talks, it made it difficult to leave the patio and soak up the science. That meeting went well, but it is over, and I am further north in Melrose, FL to spend the week with my family. Plus I have a lot of sleep and silence to catch up on. Conferences mean talking too much, sleeping too little. Time to recover.

Winter is Coming

Too fast for my liking. I was so looking forward to the last warm day on the balcony for a while (as I complete my slides), but Mother Nature decided to chill things down and kick up the wind. Brrrrr...

Meet the Folks

Late blogging about it, but the kitties and I welcomed by my parents and nephew this past weekend. For those loyal blog followers, this is the little brother of my summer intern, Xandi. They drive down from Tennessee for a few days of R&R in sleepy little Vicksburg. We arranged for a motorcycle parade and a Titans win for the occasion. We even had wildlife participation by a very large grasshopper that held the attention of a 3 yr old for longer than 5 minutes (photo taken by the 3 yr old himself).

Popover Paradox

SOLVED!!! Multiple issues were identified, including all purpose v. bread flour, room temperature eggs and milk, and letting the batter sit for an hour before baking. I love the internet.

It was nice to vote in person on election day. I think it made my day!

Calling All Cooks

My first attempt at popovers was a disappointment, and they were more accurately referred to as popunders or flopovers. If you have any suggestions or comments on this, I welcome them. I will be taking a systematic scientific approach to this issue, although as many of you know, I usually prefer to leave it in the lab.
